Jesus identifies 2 types of believers in this passage where an official’s son is healed in Galilee. First, you have those who look for miraculous signs. Unless they see or witness external, visible, miraculous events, they will not believe. The other group is not mentioned, but by implication, there is a second group who is able to place their faith in God simply by taking Jesus at his word in the absence of tangible evidence.
I have realized that I often demand God that He give me some type of miraculous sign. This could be an undeniable spiritual experience. Or a visible improvement in my circumstances — better job, shorter commute, obedient children, etc. While those visible signs may not readily be present in my life, I want to cultivate a faith that is able to take Jesus at his word.
