2 John 1: 4-6. "4It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us. 5And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. 6And
this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have
heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love."
Truth is not something you simply believe. It is something you believe and because of that belief, you alter the way you live your life. Christianity was never meant to be only a personal, devotional, private faith between me and God. It is a truth so radical that when God says love God with all your heart, mind and soul and love your neighbor as yourself, this is not a side thing or an optional thing, it changes everything about how we live.
That is why John stresses that walking in truth or the command to love one another is an act of walking in obedience to God’s commands. We need less emphasis on feeling God’s presence and spiritual experiences and we need to place more weight on the practical implications of obedience.
