Living Hope

Core Text: 1 Peter 1:3-25

Main Thesis: The gospel is good news because it offers a living, imperishable hope — rooted not in worldly pursuits but in Jesus Christ.

Three Stages of Salvation:

  • Pre-salvation — All people lived in futility and ignorance, imitating empty pursuits, separated from God. Salvation begins entirely with God’s mercy — we contribute nothing.
  • Initial salvation — The moment Jesus meets you; you are born again by the Spirit, ransomed by Christ’s sinless life and shed blood in exchange for your sin debt.
  • Final salvation — Yet to be fully realized; determined at death or Christ’s return. The goal of faith is to hold on to Jesus all the way to the end.

The Christian Life in Between: Characterized by a living hope — one that grows rather than fades, because it is anchored in an imperishable person (Jesus) rather than perishable achievements.

Contrast: Worldly hope always leads to a dead end — Ray illustrates this with his son’s college admission excitement lasting only a single day.

Call to Action: Set your hope fully on Jesus daily, letting that hunger grow until final salvation when you see Him face to face.
